Through photographic story telling, Raphaela Rosella and Kelly McIlvenny seek to share their experiences with motherhood. Rapheala looking to communicate the complex young lives of mothers in her hometown, in collaboration with young mothers from Indigenous and/or disadvantaged backgrounds from her neighbourhood or local area. While Kelly seeks to document the challenges and issues facing pregnant women in the developing country Nepal. Both photographers open this exhibition as a forum of discussion to talk about motherhood and humanity. Believing that life is neither black or white, but shown in beautiful colour as detailed and complex as the subjects themselves. I am pleased to announce that the Welcome Labour Room project has been selected to be exhibited in the Head On Photo Festival in Sydney. It is my great pleasure to invite you along to see Welcome Labour Room: The Story of Maternal Health in Nepal exhibited at the Queensland College of Art Graduation Exhibition. Come along on the opening night, Wednesday 16 November 2011 from 6pm to 9pm, to speak with the photographer and see the work in person.
